I have taught AP English Literature for more than ten years and currently work mainly with students preparing for close reading essays and open-response questions. My degree is in comparative literature, and I give careful attention to interpretation, structure, and textual support. Poetry tends to be the area students avoid longest, so I spend a good amount of time on how to discuss tone, imagery, and shifts without making the analysis sound mechanical.

Hi, I’m an AP English Literature tutor and I probably talk about poems more than most people would tolerate. I studied literature at university and started tutoring during my postgraduate degree. Since then I’ve worked with students on novels, drama, and timed essays, but poetry is still the bit I enjoy most. A lot of my lessons involve unpacking a passage slowly and figuring out what the writer is actually doing before we worry about the essay.
